Get set for the MS SQL Server 2005 revolution with AMD64!
Delivering the leading-edge price-performance-per-watt you need to manage your data. See the latest TPC-C benchmark transaction score breaking news below!

Get ready for leading-edge power, scalability, and performance per watt—the next generation of business computing has arrived. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 powered by dual-core AMD64 technology marks a major milestone in 64-bit computing, set to change the way enterprises manage data.

And AMD64 technology makes it possible. The AMD Opteron™ dual-core processor with Direct Connect Architecture delivers more power and performance per watt, easily managing data volumes beyond the reach of 32-bit computing. And with AMD64 technology, your enterprise can effortlessly transition to 64-bit computing while retaining compatibility with existing 32-bit x86 applications. This means you can increase performance with the same power requirements as a single core.

Benefits of AMD64 technology include:

  • Maximize productivity - Integrated Memory Controller and HyperTransport™ technology delivers fast data access and high-speed I/I capabilities
  • Improve efficiency – 64-bit capabilities break the 4GB barrier of 320bit computing, enabling more data to be processed and applications to run efficiently
  • Lower IT costs – AMD PowerNow!™ technology reduces power consumption by as much as 60 percent without compromising performance or system capabilities

Since Microsoft SQL Server 2005 offers a comprehensive platform for both managing and analyzing data, it fully utilizes AMD's award-winning dual-core technology, enabling organizations to make more effective business decisions.

Meeting the Evolving Demands of Business

AMD and Microsoft together are empowering businesses to do more now and in the future. The combination of AMD Opteron processors and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 can scale to support an ever-expanding world of data and users. So IT organizations will be ready to deliver connected solutions fast and efficiently .

Enterprises today are embracing the AMD standard. More than 75 percent of the top 100 companies in the Forbes Global 2000 or their affiliates have already adopted AMD64 technology to make rapid, informed decisions. Now, it's your turn.

AMD64 Technology

  • World-class performance - Direct Connect Architecture helps deliver the performance and scalability traditionally only available from high-cost proprietary servers since I/O and memory traffic do not compete for bandwidth
  • Resource consolidation – 2P and 4P AMD64 based servers support larger workloads, reducing the hardware and space requirements of your data center.
  • Lower infrastructure costs – Can reduce power and cooling costs so that you can fill your data center racks with cost-efficient AMD64-based servers
  • Application compatibility – Designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing, allowing effortless transition to 64-bit computing
Microsoft SQL Server 2005
  • Operational excellence – Comprehensive database platform ready for the most demanding multi-terabyte applications, offering industry-leading advances in storage capacity, availability, security and performance
  • Improved decision -making – Integrated support for end-user reporting and data analysis, empowering organizations to make more effective business decisions
  • Increase efficiency – Integration of Visual Studio 2005 and .NET CLR, a highly efficient management environment, with automation of common tasks creates more productive development and operations experience

AMD64 Technology Enhances Microsoft's Customer Service and Competitive Edge

For a customer-facing organization, success is measured by the last customer interaction. So timely, accurate information is critical. The Volume Licensing Business Tools and Analytics group at Microsoft needed to automate an inefficient and outdated price-quoting process. Using the AMD Opteron™ processor, the group developed the EZPET application, enabling about 1,000 Microsoft licensing executives and specialists worldwide to select prices, find attributes that define the price of a product, and automatically prepare quotes for customers.

Price quotes are now generated in minutes rather than hours, increasing customer satisfaction and freeing up licensing specialists to conduct other revenue-generating activities. Microsoft estimates that AMD Opteron processor-powered EZPET helped the field save about $27 million over a six-month period.

Unbelievable performance

The dual-core AMD Opteron processors raised the performance bar; breaking the 200K transaction score on the industry-standard TPC-C benchmark for 4P x86 servers and the 100K transaction score for 2P x86 servers.
