The Ethics in Business Awards, a partnership between St. Edward's University
and the Interfaith Samaritan Center, honor companies and individuals who
exemplify high ethical standards and practices in the workplace. Winners
were chosen from a field of 61 nominees, narrowed to 14 finalists by a
selection committee.
Each nominee was interviewed by a team of St. Edward University graduate
students. Those interviewed included AMD's external partners such and
Tokyo Electron, HP, Austin Community College and Del Valle ISD (two community
partners) and AMD's internal departments included, Legal, Corporate Supply
Management, HR and Sales.
"Winners share a common trait: a fundamental respect for their employees,
customers, volunteers, suppliers and the larger Central Texas community,"
said Phillip Thompson, director of the Center for Ethics and Leadership
at St. Edward's. "These companies balance being profitable with another
value: respect for the human beings they deal with, either internally
or externally."
